At first glance, traditional employer-sponsored health insurance seems to cover the majority of employees’ health needs, including those who are looking to start and raise a family. However, these standard benefits are far from sufficient, leaving many employees to navigate stressful and challenging phases of life—like fertility treatments, pregnancy, raising children, and menopause—alone.
Employers recognize the imperative to reduce these gaps in care for their employees, and many are turning to women’s and family health benefits to drive better outcomes, lower costs, and improve employee attraction and retention.
Maven Clinic is the world’s largest virtual clinic for women and families on a mission to make healthcare work for all of us. But what does that actually look like in reality? Here, we break down Maven’s care model and our four programs to help you understand what Maven is, and how we support your employees (and your company).

Build better benefits with Maven
Maven’s member-facing platform is fueled by four main pillars: on-demand access to specialists, our Care Advocates, a customized care plan and resources library, and financial coverage. No health or family journey is the same, which is why providing personalized support is critical for improving outcomes. On Maven, every member’s care journey is personalized based on their onboarding survey and information gathered through meetings and messages with specialists. Some of the ways members can personalize their experience include:
On-demand access to specialists
Every employee who signs up with Maven—we call them our members—can meet virtually with a wide range of specialists who can support them along their reproductive health journeys. There are over 30 types of specialists available for members on Maven’s platform, including OB-GYNs, nutritionists, mental health professionals, reproductive endocrinologists, sleep coaches, lactation consultants, parent coaches, and more.
And unlike traditional doctors’ offices, where employees may have to wait weeks or months for an appointment, Maven members can generally meet with a specialist within an hour. Even if it’s 2 AM and a new parent is struggling with breastfeeding, there’s a Maven provider available to meet and provide guidance.
On Maven, employees are more likely to find specialists who share their same background and lived experiences (a concept called care matching). Our specialists offer care in 35+ languages, including Spanish, French, Hindi, and Hebrew. 40% of our specialists identify as Latine, Black, Asian, Middle Eastern, or multiracial, and 11% identify as LGBTQIA+.
Personal guide
We know that navigating doctor’s appointments & care—especially when starting a family or while experiencing menopause—can feel overwhelming for many employees. On Maven, all members are assigned a healthcare guide as soon as they sign up for the platform. These guides, called Care Advocates, stick with your employee for as long as they’re on Maven, helping employees by:
- Understanding their health goals through live calls and chats
- Answering any questions that come up
- Connecting them with specialists on Maven, as well as those available through other employer benefits and in-person care
- Managing reimbursements
- Serving as a coach and cheerleader

Customized care plans & resource library
When your employees sign up for Maven, they complete an onboarding assessment that helps us understand their needs and goals for their time on Maven. Using that data, as well as conversations members have with their Care Advocates, we work with members to build their personalized care plan.
Each care plan includes proactive health recommendations, an action plan with specialists to meet with and steps to take to meet their health goals, and health interventions both on and off Maven. These care plans are designed to catch and address any issues early, helping employees and their families achieve better health outcomes along their reproductive health journey.
For example, a Fertility member who is having trouble trying to conceive may indicate during onboarding that they have irregular periods, which their doctor thinks is PCOS. Our care plan for this member will include education about PCOS (like content titled “How to talk to your OB-GYN about PCOS), and we will prompt them to meet with a Maven Nutritionist to understand how changes in diet may improve symptoms.
Outside of their care plan, your employees also have access to a robust library of resources through the Maven platform. Based on the Maven program employees enroll in, they can learn through our library of curated articles, instead of sorting through the trove of information and misinformation on the internet. Every one of our articles is medically reviewed, ensuring that employees get accurate information when they need it.
Members can also attend our virtual classes and workshops, led by our specialists. For example, those who want to learn more about their fertility can join a Fertility 101 event led by a reproductive endocrinologist, where they can connect with peers at a similar stage of life and get their questions answered.
Financial coverage
Through Maven, you can provide your employees with an easy-to-navigate, compliant financial benefit, covering services that are essential across their family and reproductive health journeys. Employers can customize which services they cover, including fertility treatment, adoption, surrogacy, doula care, childcare expenses, and HRT prescriptions.
You can design a benefit through Maven that aligns with your budget and provides your employees with stress-free financial support and transparency into cost and expenses. Members can easily upload receipts for reimbursement, use the Maven debit card to pay for approved expenses, and track their benefit balance in real time through their in-app Maven Wallet feature.
Maven offers four main programs: Fertility & Family Building, Maternity & Newborn Care, Parenting & Pediatrics, and Menopause & Midlife Health.
While the most comprehensive support and continuous care comes from offering all four programs to employees, some companies who offer Maven choose only the programs that are most relevant to their workforce.
Fertility is not just an expense to be managed, but a journey to be supported.
Maven’s Fertility & Family Building program supports employees of all genders as they begin the process of starting or growing their family. Many members begin with trying-to-conceive (TTC) coaching, where members can learn about and address the factors that affect conception, like nutrition, menstrual cycles, and semen health. Through Maven’s TTC coaching, 30% of members struggling with their fertility are able to achieve pregnancy without IUI/IVF.
For those that do seek fertility treatment, Maven is there with them every step of the way. Maven will support you in designing and administering a financial benefit that is easy-to-use and inclusive of all employees. Members not only receive support from their Care Advocate and Maven specialists, but also access to discounted rates with Maven’s global network of highest-quality fertility clinics and pharmacies. Members pursuing adoption or surrogacy also can find care through Maven, meeting with surrogacy coaches and adoption specialists and receiving referrals to local adoption and surrogacy agencies when needed.

Maternity & Newborn Care supports pregnant employees and their partners in between doctor’s visits as they navigate pregnancy, miscarriage/loss, postpartum, and returning to work. Like all other Maven programs, your pregnant employees can meet at any time with their Care Advocate and specialists like OB-GYNs, doulas, lactation consultants, sleep coaches, and mental health specialists to help them through this exciting—and challenging—phase of life.
Maven’s care model is designed to recognize risk and warning signs early, allowing us to provide customized care for high-risk pregnancies. If an employee presents signs of a high-risk pregnancy through in-app assessments or in conversations with their Maven specialists, they receive a care team who specializes in managing this type of pregnancy, and are recommended specific specialists based on their unique symptoms.
For those returning to work while still breastfeeding, our simple and reliable breast milk shipping service makes it possible. Maven Milk gives employees three options: A Pump & Post kit for U.S. travel, a Pump & Carry kit for overnight travel or carry-ons, and a Pump & Check kit to tote and check milk while traveling internationally.

Balancing work and raising a family is like having two full-time jobs, and many working parents struggle to bring their best selves to both. Maven’s Parenting & Pediatrics program is designed to give your employees the resources they need to thrive at work and at home. We support parents and families with children ages one and up.
Through Maven, employees can access pediatric care, parenting experts, special needs support, and childcare resources whenever they need it. In fact, 60% of appointments on Maven take place outside of standard office hours, because problems and questions can arise for your employees at any time of day or night.
Employees also have access to a robust library of parenting and pediatrics resources. Beyond articles, resources include guided curriculums to help parents address a range of common topics including autism, ADHD, potty training, work-life balance, picky eating, and family dynamics.

Your employees’ reproductive health needs don’t stop as they get older. Menopause & Midlife Health supports employees of all genders as they navigate an often overlooked and under-resourced stage of life. Members receive help managing their hormonal health and forming healthy habits.
80% of OB-GYN residents report that they are “barely comfortable” discussing or treating menopause, so many employees likely aren’t receiving the support they need from their local doctor. Maven’s platform gives them access to specialists who focus on menopause support and are able to provide the care they deserve. Prescription support is available for employees who need medication like HRT for their symptoms, while nutrition coaches, physical support coaches, sex coaches, and more can provide a more holistic approach to symptom management.
Employees who use Maven for menopause and midlife health support experience meaningful relief in symptoms: 55% report reduced anxiety, 36% report reduced hot flashes, and 41% report reduced sleep problems.
Additionally, men can receive hormone health support (for things like low testosterone) and mental health care, and information on sexual and general wellness and midlife symptom management.

Your employees’ reproductive health journeys can be both joyous and challenging. The benefits you offer employees during this time plays a pivotal role in how well they’re able to show up at home and in the office. If the model we outlined above seems like a good fit for your organization, we’d love to talk.
