Your questions,
answered
GLP-1 receptor agonists are prescription medications that may help regulate appetite, blood sugar, and metabolism. For women, hormones, life stage, and muscle mass all play a role, so care should be designed with that full context in mind.
Eligibility depends on factors like BMI, medical history, and existing conditions. We review your full health history—including conditions like PMOS/PCOS, perimenopause, or recent pregnancy—to determine whether treatment is appropriate. In some cases, we may require lab testing or prior medical records depending on your health history and location.
Common side effects can include nausea, fatigue, constipation, or gastrointestinal discomfort. Hormonal shifts can also influence how women experience them, which is why we adjust dosing thoughtfully and proactively. GLP-1 medications can also carry serious risks, which your provider will review with you.
Our clinicians specialize in women's metabolic and hormone health, which means they’re
trained to consider how hormones, life stage, reproductive history, and biology all interact. That
context shapes how we prescribe, monitor, and adjust your care.
Most GLP-1 programs stop at the prescription. Maven integrates GLP-1 care into a broader women’s health model—combining clinical oversight, nutrition guidance, side effect and muscle-preserving support, and hormone-aware care across life stages.
GLP-1 medications influence appetite and insulin sensitivity—both of which intersect with hormonal health. We consider menstrual changes, PCOS, perimenopause, and reproductive planning when guiding treatment.
PMOS/PCOS is closely tied to insulin resistance, which GLP-1 medications directly address.
By improving insulin sensitivity and moderating appetite signals, they can support blood sugar
regulation and weight management—both of which affect PMOS/PCOS symptoms. For some
women, this also leads to more regular menstrual cycles. GLP-1s aren't a standalone
PMOS/PCOS treatment, but they can be a meaningful part of a broader care plan. We factor
your PMOS/PCOS history into how we prescribe and monitor treatment.
We prescribe only FDA-approved GLP-1 medications, including semaglutide (Wegovy®, Ozempic®), tirzepatide (Zepbound®), and orforglipron (Foundayo®). We don’t offer compounded formulations.
Your monthly membership covers visits with your GLP-1 Care Team, dose adjustments, and two free specialist consultations for nutrition guidance and strength training support. GLP-1 medication costs are billed separately and may be covered by insurance. We help you understand potential coverage and self-pay options if needed.
It depends on your plan. Many insurers cover GLP-1 medications for Type 2 diabetes; coverage
for weight management is more variable. Before you start, we'll help you understand your
benefits and explore potential coverage options. If your medication isn't covered, we'll walk
through self-pay pricing and alternative options with you.
Treatment duration is personal. Some women stay on GLP-1s long-term; others use them as a bridge to sustainable lifestyle changes. We help you develop a plan that makes sense for you.
We build lifestyle habits and metabolic support into your care from day one—so if you decide to stop, you're set up to maintain your progress. Many people regain some weight after discontinuation, which is why we focus on sustainable, long-term health throughout your journey.
Your care team includes prescribing clinicians who specialize in women’s metabolic and
hormone health—available for visits and messaging throughout your care—along with a
nutrition coach and a strength coach. Your first nutrition and strength consultations are
included; you can book additional visits as your care evolves. Through Maven's virtual clinic,
you can also connect with providers across 30+ specialties, including OB-GYNs, mental health
providers, and reproductive health specialists.
