“What makes a top workplace for New Yorkers?” That’s the question that Fortune and Great Place to Work explored when surveying employees at industry-leading companies to compile their annual Best Places to Work in NYC list. Maven is humbled to be named to their 2020 list of the 30 Best Small and Medium Workplaces, alongside companies we’ve long admired, including our clients Hulu and West Monroe Partners.
As a fast-growing leader in the digital health space, Maven knows that creating a culture of high-trust and inclusion is key to attracting and supporting diverse talent across all our teams. Since day one over six years ago, we’ve worked to create an environment that helps our teams do their best work. And that’s all in the interest of keeping connected to our mission of empowering women and families to take care and take on the world.
Karsten Vagner, VP of People at Maven had this to say:
“One year ago when I joined Maven, I knew I was joining a special team. We celebrate each other's accomplishments, we give each other honest feedback, and we take care to make sure that everything we do, we do with our mission in mind. I'm so proud that others are recognizing something we've known for a long time—Maven is one of the best places to work in New York.”
And 2020 has raised unprecedented challenges for all workplaces. When COVID-19 hit, we saw it as an opportunity to learn and grow. We needed to adapt fast to the challenges being presented to us, as well as to the companies we partner with and the members we serve.
Here are just some of the things that we’ve implemented at Maven throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to support employees, all while growing our team, keeping our members healthy, and supporting our clients.
- Provide our team members with unlimited, free access to Maven and our 2,000+ providers, including mental health experts and career coaches, in the largest telemedicine network for women’s and family health. We saw a 500% increase in employee utilization of our product from January to March.
- Introduced weekly pulse surveys of employees to determine how best to support them, leading to stipends for remote office setups, days off to adjust, and flexible schedules for parents.
- Kicked off small group training sessions for employees and people managers with Maven Career Coaches to share best practices for remote work, navigating times of crisis while leading a team, and more.
- Introduced new work from home communications channels, including twice weekly company-wide meetings and a daily “WFH email” where 60+ team members shared a reflection on an aspect of their experience during the pandemic—from grappling with serious sickness and loss to what sharing a 400 square foot studio teaches us about compromise.
- Matched donations to Robin Hood’s COVID-19 Relief Fund focused on emergency support for New Yorkers through food, housing, job security, and more.
- Fostered culture and connection through programming like weekly “Coffeehouse Cabaret” sessions with Broadway talent over Google Hangouts, Chopped-style cooking challenges, a Pride-inspired coloring project, and Halloween in April for employees’ children, and more.
