How do you partner with Maven?
I am an OB-GYN who is on-staff with Maven. I am licensed in multiple states, and I see patients on the Maven platform 20 hours per week. I also do consulting for Maven including writing and reviewing content for the site as well as consulting with the team regarding development of new programs.
Why did you choose to work with Maven?
I believe that telemedicine is a powerful new platform that enables patients to access healthcare in new ways and also decreases the number of unnecessary urgent care and emergency room visits. I also believe in Maven’s mission. This is a company led by an amazing female CEO to empower women in the healthcare realm.
Why did you choose to become an OB-GYN?
I always knew that I wanted to be a doctor. However, I thought I wanted to be a pediatrician. During medical school rotations, I loved my OB-GYN rotation and changed my mind about my specialty. I loved taking care of women during all phases of life and the unique relationship that this specialty allowed me to develop with my patients.
What’s one of the most common health questions women ask you?
I often get asked about contraception and which method of contraception is right for the individual patient. This is a great question to delve into over telemedicine! Although the answer may be different for each patient depending on your health issues and current medication, we can definitely discuss the risks and benefits of each option as well as which options are most effective.
What is your wish for the future of women’s healthcare?
My wish for the future of women’s healthcare would be to bridge the disparities in women’s healthcare so that all women have access to healthcare and that all women have access to healthcare with good outcomes regardless of their race or socioeconomic status. I would also like to see maternal morbidity and mortality improved in our country.
What’s a totally random fact about you?
I was actually born in Saudi Arabia due to my father working abroad for a general contracting company. I am a US citizen, though, as both of my parents are US citizens. I moved a lot growing up, but my husband and two children and I love living near the beach now in SW Florida!!
